A selective chronicle of the Lindsay clan

A Lindsay Family Story is an informal and selective chronicle of the Scottish clan, Lindsay. It was written by James Lindsay (1906-97), son of a Clan Chieftain, and edited by his nephew, Christopher Arnander, with the help of the author’s four children. James was a soldier, diplomat, Member of Parliament and artist.

The role of Lindsays is described in politics, diplomacy, war, bibliography, religion, art, farming, industry and science, across four continents and nine centuries – from the arrival of Gilbert of Ghent in Britain in 1066 to the start of the Second World War.

The author insisted that the book was not a ‘serious history’, but merely an attempt to trace the story of the Lindsay family. Three quarters of the book concerns his own branch of the clan over the last three hundred years. There is a considerable number of other branches, only marginally covered in the book.

It has 428 pages, Royal size. There are 88 plates and over 100 other illustrations, some never seen before. It has a map, timeline, index and family trees. Available in paperback from Amazon through the Witley bookshop. ISBN 978-0-955-51632-0
